Have you ever tried to send somebody a file that is too big for your email app to process? I have done that so many times. I’d ended up sending the files via file sharing websites but some of these websites have limitations on the size of the files that you can send too. Some file-sharing websites charge fees. But I found out that the best place to share large files for free is on Google Drive.
Google Drive gives you 15 GB of space to store your files and share with people. That’s more than enough space for most people and small businesses in my opinion.
Anyone who is into Pinterest Marketing might find Google Drive useful. As you know, Pinterest does not allow people to download Pinterest Pins unless you are the owner. You can use Google Drive to upload your Pinterest pins and templates and make them available for people to download. You can collaborate on creating Pinterest pins and templates with people this way. You can choose the people that you want to share or work with.
If you don’t know how to use or share your files on Google Drive, I’m here to show you.
How to Use Google Drive
First, you must have a Google Account. If you don’t have an account, you can sign-up at https://accounts.google.com
Once you have an account, go to https://drive.google.com
Your dashboard will look something like this:
From your dashboard, you can create new folders, upload files or upload an entire folder. See the Illustration below.
You can upload as many files as you can fit in 15GB of the allowed space you have on Google Drive.
How To Share Your Files On Google Drive With People
1. Create a folder that you want to share
After you’ve created the folder, click on the folder icon. To give you examples, I’ve created a folder named “FOLDER I WANT TO SHARE”.
2. Upload the files you want to share to the folder
Make sure you’re in the folder you want to share. Then click the “new” button to upload the files that you want to share.
3. Share the folder with your files with your contacts
To share the folder with your contacts, click the dropdown menu button on your folder name (See illustration) . Then you will see a menu. Select “Share”.
4. Add and authorize the people you want to share your folder with
Enter the email address of the person you want to share your folder with. Google Drive link sharing allows you to share the folder directly to your contacts by giving them a direct link to it. However, a person must have a Google account in order to access your files. By adding their email address and clicking done, you are giving them permission to your files. You can give a person permission to access your files as a viewer, an editor, or an owner.
5. Copy the link to your folder and send it to your contacts
Simply “Copy” the link to the folder that you want to share (See illustration above) and send it to the people you’ve authorized to share it with. You can always change the Google Drive sharing permissions to add or remove contacts.
You might ask, “If I share a folder in Google Drive can they see my other folders? The answer is no. A person will only have access to that specific folder that you give them the authorization to access. They can’t access the other folders in your drive unless you give them permission to.
That’s it for now. I hope that you find this little tutorial helpful. Until next time. Happy blogging.
